This weekend’s September 10-11 Shannons Nationals Round 6 at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit promises great Sports Car action with:
- the final round of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge for 2016,
- National Sports Sedans,
- V8 Tourers,
- Touring Car Masters,
- Superkarts Formula 3,
- SportsRacers and more
Besides the Porsches, the other Sports Car category is the increasingly popular Sports Racers with their screaming 1000cc motorcycle engines sure to entertain with lap times only 4 seconds outside the circuit record
A new feature of this meeting will be the Final Round of the AGT Trophy Series, with 2 Mini Enduros of 50 minutes each with great intensity and tactics expected from these older generation GT cars.
Touring Car Masters return with the likes of John Bowe, Jim Richards, Glenn Seton, Steve Johnson and Rusty French racing musclecar beasts from the past including, Toranas, Falcon GTs, Mustangs Camaros, Monaros and the lone Jim Richards Javelin. The Javelin Car Club will be in the spectator area giving Jim some great support.
Sports Sedans will delight, with winged monsters providing both visual and audial stimulation, from the likes of Ricciardelo in the Alfa-Chev, Perkins in the Audi-Chev, battling at up to 300KPH with the Tamasi’s Nissan 300ZX-Chev and Calibra chasing hard, along with the Monaros of Robinson and Smith, Banks RX7 and many more.
Open wheeler fans will enjoy Australian Formula 3 with a tight finish to their series looming, with newly crowned PIARC John Lanyon Competitor of the Year and Island Lap Record holder, Tim Macrow, looking, to add to his impressive record.
The other open wheel category is the Superkarts with a 26 strong field of these Pocket Rockets providing great viewing in the second of their 3 Round Series.
Ford and Holden fans will have their fix with the V8 Touring Cars, many of these former V8 supercars running in their heritage colours.
Taz Douglas who has raced many of these cars in V8 Supercar Series, is using this series to keep himself in tune with the genre and leads the 2016 points in this penultimate round with youngster Tyler Greenbury in local ace Terry Wyhoon’s Falcon, challenging his points lead.
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge 2016 sees Porsche rising star Jaxon Evans returning to the Island as the newly crowned Jim Richards Endurance Cup Champion and desperately trying to reel in series leader Hamish Hardeman.
