I’ve really liked the past two issues of Race Magazine, top notch stuff and the variety has been good. The Datsun 1200 was a beauty, but it can’t be good for getting kids involved if you have to run a car that must look like a dinosaur! When do you reckon someone will start up another class like the Geminis that used to race here in Queensland? They were great stuff, cheap to race too and just the thing I’d like to get my 16 year old son into.
I remember watching the Geminis on TV, but I’m not sure that there’s any scope for such a class again. However I took your thoughts on board when I looked at cars at recent events and you will find two cars in this issue that would be ideal beginners car: the XR4 Fiesta and the 20V Toyota Yaris. Both could provide years of reliable racing close to the front of their class in Improved Production … though I’m not sure what a 16 year old son would find exciting to race. Putting my ‘Dad’ hat on, I suspect it would be something expensive. I’ll leave this discussion to you and your son, but the Yaris will be racing local to you and I suggest you take the opportunity to get along and see it in 2013. It is a classy little car.
